Nikon D7500 DX-Format DSLR Body

The D7500 is the enthusiast Nikon that a lot of photographers stayed on. It borrows the sensor and the metering brain from the D500, drops them into a lighter body, and asks for a fraction of the money. Amazon currently lists it as the best selling DSLR on the site, which for a camera released in 2017 says something about what people actually want.

What it is

A 20.9-megapixel APS-C body on the Nikon F mount, weather sealed, with a pentaprism viewfinder that shows the full frame at 0.94x. It shoots 8 frames a second, focuses with 51 points, and records 4K UHD at 30p. The rear screen is a 3.2-inch tilting touchscreen.

The one thing to know before you buy

It has a single SD card slot. The D7200 before it had two, and dropping the second is the most common complaint about this camera. For most work it does not matter. For a wedding, or anything you cannot photograph twice, it is the reason some photographers stayed on the older body or moved up to a D850.

Carrying it

At 720 grams with a battery and a card, the D7500 is not a heavy camera on its own. It becomes one the moment a fast zoom goes on the front, and that weight lands on one shoulder for as long as you are out. Nine hundred and fifty frames of battery means the camera will outlast you before it outlasts itself, so how it hangs matters more than it sounds.
